Dr. Dodd is the Medical Director of the Jackson Pain Center and a practicing physician for over 20 years. Dr. Dodd received his medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. He completed a residency in Anesthesiology and a fellowship in Pain Management at Wake Forest University. His fellowship included training at University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston and Flinders Medical Center of the University of South Australia. His primary professional interests are spine-related low back and neck pain. He is actively involved as a principal investigator in clinical drug studies for the treatment of pain. Dr. Dodd is board certified in Pain Management and Anesthesiology.
Dr. Dodd is a member of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, American Academy of Pain Medicine, International Spine Injection Society, American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine and the International Association for the Study of Pain.
Dr. Dodd has been awarded the prestigious PATIENTS CHOICE AWARD in multiple years since 2012 and the Compassionate Doctor Recognition by Vitals.com. He has also been chosen as one of AMERICA’S TOP PHYSICIANS by the Consumers Research Council of America and was selected as a 2014 Mississippi Healthcare Hero by the Mississippi Business Journal. In addition, from 2014 through 2017 he has been recognized annually by Castle Connolly, publisher of America’s Top Doctors, as a TOP DOCTOR in Pain Management.
After graduating magna cum laude from Harvard University with a degree in psychology, Dr. Honey East earned her medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, followed by a residency in internal medicine and fellowship in endocrinology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
She is a former associate professor at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and former director of UMMC’s Cardiometabolic Clinic. Additionally, she served as investigator and co-investigator for multiple clinical trials.
Dr. East prioritizes giving back to her hometown of Jackson and Mississippi’s communities, having served on the Governor’s Task Force on Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke Prevention and as a volunteer with the National Stroke Association, the Arthritis Foundation, Grace House AIDS initiatives, and the NICU at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Beyond medicine, Dr. East serves St. Andrew’s Episcopal School as a Trustee on the Board of Directors and is a former member of its Capital Campaign Steering Committee. She is also a communicant at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and has devoted volunteer time to Stewpot Ministries, the Junior League of Jackson, and Rebuilding Together. When she is not actively practicing medicine, Dr. East cherishes the time she spends with her two daughters and son.
Dr. Carroll McLeod, originally from Hattiesburg, lives in Jackson, Mississippi. The son of a physician, Dr. McLeod received his medical degree from the University Of Mississippi School Of Medicine in 1988. Following an internship in Internal Medicine at Oschner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans, LA, he completed a residency in Anesthesia at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX. Dr. McLeod then completed a pain fellowship where he trained at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Galveston as well as at M.D. Anderson Medical Center in Houston, Texas. He is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology.
Dr. McLeod, in 1992, joined Jackson Anesthesia Associates as an Anesthesiologist and began his pain management practice in a part time setting. Very soon afterwards, his pain management practice grew to the point where it was a full time job; therefore Jackson Anesthesia Pain Center was built. Dr. McLeod treats all types of chronic pain including Cancer Pain, Spine related low back and neck pain, as well as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. He specializes in spinal cord stimulation and intrathecal pain pump implantation/therapy, including participating in research and studies for future technological advances for these devices. Dr. McLeod was also the first physician in Mississippi to offer a Sphenopalatine Ganglion Block using a cutting-edge, minimally invasive SpenoCath device to help patients with Migraine, Headaches, and/or trigeminal pain. Dr. McLeod uses a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach to treating his patients for pain management which includes, but not limited to, interventional procedures, medications, physical therapy and behavioral cognitive techniques.
Dr. McLeod is married to Lorie and together they have 1 son Carey. He is an avid hunter, enjoys playing golf, traveling, and Ole Miss Sports.
Dr. Jeremy D. Smitherman, a native of Madison, Mississippi, attended Mississippi State University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in Mechanical Engineering in 2004. He was accepted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center where he received his Doctor of Medicine in 2008. Dr. Smitherman’s professional training continued at UMMC with the completion of a residency in Anesthesiology. He was honored to serve as chief resident during his last year of training.
In 2012 Dr. Smitherman joined Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville, MS as an Anesthesiologist where he practiced for seven years. He was voted by his peers to serve as chief of surgery section from 2016-2019. He is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology.
In 2019 he decided to return to the University of Mississippi Medical Center to further his academic pursuits with an accredited fellowship in the area of Interventional Pain Management. During the fellowship Dr. Smitherman received specialty training in the comprehensive management of pain utilizing a multidisciplinary approach including medication management, physical therapy, interventional procedures, and cognitive behavioral therapy. He specializes in spinal cord stimulation and vertebral augmentation.
Dr. Smitherman provides consultation and treatment for patients with all types of painful disorders including spine related low back and neck pain, cancer pain, peripheral neuropathy, and complex regional pain syndrome.
He and his wife, Sarah, have two beautiful daughters. He enjoys spending time with his family as well as hunting, fishing and attending Mississippi State sporting events. He has served on Young Life Committee and is active in his church.
Dr. Mahesh Mehta completed his anesthesiology residency training at University of Michigan and pain fellowship at University of Kentucky. He is board certified by American Board of Anesthesiolgy with special certification in Pain Management.
Dr. Mehta following his training joined the faculty at University of Iowa and later University of Mississippi. As a faculty member he has received Thomas Hale Hamm Award from American Association of Medical Colleges, Senior Fogarty Fellowship from National Institute of Health, and nominated multiple times as Teacher of the Year by pain residents and fellows.
Dr. Mehta treats all kinds of pain problems including spine related neck and back pain, cancer pain, chronic neuropathic pain, complex regional pain syndrome. He is specialized in performing interventional procedures for pain that include epidural blocks, joint injections, intercoastal nerve blocks, occipital nerve blocks, facet joint injections, bursa etc.
Dr. Mehta is married to Hema and have a daughter and son. He is an avid golfer and enjoys traveling and has hiked all around the world.
Brian Gates is originally from Madison but now resides in Jackson, Mississippi. He received his Bachelor Degree in Nursing at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2007. He has worked for 5 years as an ICU RN at UMMC, MS Baptist Medical Center, as well as Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, TN. Brian has also had 3 years’ experience working alongside Dr. Carroll McLeod as his Pain Clinic RN at MAE Physicians Surgery Center assisting him with pain interventional procedures. In 2015, Brian obtained a Master’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Alabama-Birmingham to become an Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner. After receiving his Nurse Practitioner Certification, he then rejoined Dr. McLeod at the Jackson Anesthesia Pain Center in August of 2015 to assist him once again with his pain management practice.
Brian and his wife, Christen, have 2 sons, Adler and Chase. He enjoys playing golf and tennis when he is not treating his patients.
Dr. Christy Davis, nurse practitioner, specializes in providing individualized, all-encompassing care. She has 12 years of nursing experience including intensive care, veteran’s health, sepsis, medical weight management, and working with bariatric surgery patients. She is a certified Specialist in Obesity and Weight Management and a Certified Bariatric Nurse.
Davis is trained to assess patient needs and partner with them in their journey to a healthier life. She is knowledgeable about chronic disease management, nutrition, and exercise counseling.
Davis received her DNP degree from the Mississippi University for Women, where her project focus was educating primary care providers about treating obesity. She has presented throughout Mississippi; educating other members of the healthcare community about obesity and treatment options.
Davis enjoys giving back to her profession and community. She is a member of the Mississippi Nurses Association and serves on the board for district 13. She is an active member of the Junior Auxiliary of Rankin County. Away from work, Davis enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters.
